O.K. this is actually not PWS, but the confluence of the
Russian and the Kenai River (Sanctuary - aptly called since
we were there on Sunday) - Just though you may want to see
what some old friends are up to (The Leahy's) - they have
moved to AK and we are excited to share in the
bounty.
Yum - smoked reds, I thought they were my favorite, but I am
really starting to like smoked King better.
Caleb is yawning - enough of the pinks, show me Silvers and
Kings - but it was fun to have a little action.
Once I told Red Fox about the good weather and flat seas -
he could not resist but coming to share a fire and some
fishing.
Plundering and pillaging the high seas, I believe this one
was the white King (36 inches if memory servers, but you
know how fisherman are) I was thinking the biggest had to be
around 40lbs, but after I got them home I am guessing the
biggest is around 30lb.
We have had many, many days like this in the sound this
year, sunshine, flat seas - awesome.
Fish Stories? Red Fox gives me lessons. The class was called
"Downrigger 101" Cathy says I should buy one, so I am going
to start shopping - if not this year, for sure next year - I
love hunting around the edges of areas working different
depths and trying different hardware.
I sure love the new cutting table, seems I am always using
it for a work area of one sort or another.
Coming into Wally Noerenberg (Esther Island) Hatchery - we
stopped int to take a tour - this is North Americas largest
hatchery, it was quite impressive.
Tim was our impromptu tour guide and you could tell that he
had a passion for working here and enjoyed living here year
around.
The Chums were in thick at the fresh water outlet, Caleb had
to touch one.
I forget if these are pink or chum eggs, but the room had
like 150 million of them.
These were Coho (silvers) they keep them for about a year of
so and then release.
